Defensive
Driving
Defensive
driving is a much discussed truck driver topic, but it should be the
goal of everyone who gets behind the wheel of any vehicle.
The
defensive driver tries to recognize potentially hazardous situations
sufficiently in advance to allow time to safely maneuver past them.
The defensive driver assumes that other drivers may make mistakes
and is on guard in the event an error is made. Defensive drivers
don’t just worry about having the right-of-way, they worry about
staying safe through being attentive and responsive.
Fight Stress
Stress weakens your immune systems, makes you more prone to illness
and addictions and less likely to live a productive, healthy life.
If you are suffering from stress, there are ways to deal with it,
even if you cannot directly solve the situation that is causing the
stress. To lessen stress, first sit down and analyze the situation
you're in and see whether there's anything you can do to take some
pressure off, such as asking for a friend's help or hiring a
professional to help. Exercise and some quiet time can release
accumulated stress. Having a pet or other interests also helps.
You Know Every Hill and Turn.
When you are going
to the same place over and over, force yourself to look carefully
for unexpected changes.
Every vehicle
represents possible danger, so keep your eyes moving and pay
attention. Eliminate surprises.

Move More
Make it a
daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if
given a choice. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with
friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a
fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments
of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym. But that's great
when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. |
